Benefit reforms will probably cause a widespread societal crisis?

I was having a chat with ChatGPT and it seems that the reforms could have a very negative effect on society as a whole.

I then got ChatGPT to write a short, clear statement summarizing these concerns, which maybe we could send to our MP's, council members, etc?

Here it is:

Subject: Concern About Proposed Disability Benefit Reforms and Local Impact

Dear [MP's name / Councillor's name],

I’m writing to express serious concern about the potential impact of proposed benefit reforms that involve cutting the amount people get for Limited Capability for Work and Work-Related Activity (LCWRA), merging LCWRA into Personal Independence Payment (PIP), and tightening eligibility criteria.

If these changes go ahead as reported, most people who are disabled, mentally ill, or otherwise unwell and genuinely unable to work will lose essential support. This would leave them without the means to meet basic living costs, including council tax, rent, and food.

While this is already a personal tragedy for those affected, I’m also concerned about the wider consequences for local councils and communities as most people who are too unwell to work will no longer be able to afford their council tax. The consequences include:

  • Increased council tax arrears, reducing council revenue at a time when budgets are already stretched.
  • Greater demand on local services, including housing, social care, and mental health support.
  • Knock-on effects on public services for everyone — such as reduced bin collections, strain on emergency services, and less funding for community safety and prevention work.
  • Rising poverty, homelessness, and public health issues, which will cost far more to manage than any savings made from cutting benefits.

There are millions of people in the UK living with serious health conditions who are not well enough to work. Removing or restricting support like PIP and LCWRA risks creating a national crisis that will be felt deeply in every council area.

I urge you to raise this issue with government ministers and to oppose any reform that punishes those who are too unwell to work, especially without strong safeguards, adequate replacement support, and consultation with disabled people and their representatives.

Thank you for taking the time to consider this.

Yours sincerely,
[Your name]
[Your postcode – important if writing to your MP]

What do you guys think?
