    @sandrajean

    I am sorry to hear you're in hospital, and I wish you a speedy recovery. If you're self employed and working on someone else's premises, they have a legal duty to ensure your safety. If their negligence caused your injury, you may be entitled to compensation. Under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, this duty of care extends to all workers, including contractors and freelancers.

    I've just realised you might also be asking about financial support you might be entitled to while you're unable to work. If you’ve paid enough National Insurance contributions, you could qualify for contribution-based benefits like New Style Employment and Support Allowance (ESA). If you haven’t, there are still means-tested benefits available, which are based on your income and personal circumstances rather than your NI record.

    Welcome @sandrajean bless you, I hope you're doing ok.

    I can see @MW123 has given some fab advice, so I won't add anything more for now other than to wish you the best with your recovery. Please let us know how you're getting on with it, and your claim (if you're happy to, of course).
