Just struggled to get to the door to collect a parcel and...

...the Royal Mail guy looked at me (a clearly not-healthy person) waving to him in his van to come back with my parcel, and then drove off with it anyway.

Why are they like this?

Maddening, isn't it?! I'm thinking of putting up an intercom so I can tell them I'm on my way.

Sorry you've had that experience @MicMac, it's so annoying when that happens! I find that round here it's often the Amazon deliveries that don't hang about. They're halfway down the road by the time you get to the door!

I had a look at the Royal Mail website and if you're able to use an app, you can set some accessibility settings on the Royal Mail app. I think you can contact them by other means if the app isn't suitable for you: How to set up your accessibility requirements

Not sure how effective that'll be but could be worth a go!

And if you feel like you'd like to make a complaint, there's a form here: Complaints

I too have problems getting to the door to collect parcels. I now have a parcel box by the front door. Couriers & Royal Mail know about the box & most regular ones drop parcels inside or if too big at the side. They then ring my buzzer to let me know they have done it & I do not have to rush. If they need me they usually ring twice & wait.

It seems I'm really lucky. Both Royal Mail and Amazon bring my mail and parcels to my front room! They also like to pet my dog while they're here, though, so it could be that. 😁

I have this problem regularly. Have tried contacting the couriers and putting up polite signage but ultimately the delivery is still the responsibility of the sender while the couriers have it, so they're concerned about claims for loss or damage.

I believe that once they've logged it onto the computer system as 'missed', it then has to be processed as a missed delivery, they can't just give it to you if you get to the door afterwards.

Very frustrating for us, but again it's caused by living in a world of untrustworthy people who are out to take advantage. That's why the courier companies have to be so careful nowadays.

It's just annoying because I do manage to make it to the door in quite a reasonable time, but it's still not quick enough for them.

I did actually ring them to complain the last time this happened. I was made to press a series of numbers to get to the complaints option, and when I finally pressed the number for that option, I got silence. This happened every time I tried. Magnificent customer service!

I guess I can download the app. But it does irk me that you have to add more and more junk apps to your phone, all for the sake of preventing this kind of thing.
