Hi All, I'm still pretty new here. I wondered if anyone had any advice on renting to live. I'm housebound and am finding the process of property searches v hard. So many estate agents refuse virtual tours. I've held off on sharing I have mobility/ health issues for fear of it working against me. Surely in 2025 a video tour is sensible. There's so much bias towards being disabled or sick I'm not sure if there's a way round this or if anyone has had any experience ? Thank you

    Try https://www.openrent.co.uk/

    You communicate directly with landlords.

Sorry to hear you're struggling with finding a new place @starlight33. It's not easy when you can't leave the house, I totally get your frustration.

Is there a trusted friend or family member nearby that could go to viewings on your behalf? They could perhaps take a video for you if the agents aren't willing to provide anything.

As Kimi87 suggested, OpenRent can be good to get in touch with landlords. They may be slightly more accommodating than some agents can be.

Hello, I think it may be best that you explain to the estate agents what your situation is. They may be able to assist you then....and after all, it will not be possible to conceal your condition if you meet them. And why should you? Nothing to get ashamed of! And moreover they are NOT allowed to discriminate against you by law if you are going to be a suitable and reliable tenant. I assume you need somewhere with a few adaptations, low light switches etc so maybe they...or a local housing association....can find you something suitable.

    All the best, A

Hi thanks I think you're right. I didn't want to say much because there's so much stigma if you're not working or unwell however I came to thinking they can't discriminate against me just because I have limited mobility. Though they tend to say sorry the place is gone giving it to the city whizz kid instead. Anyway thank you for the encouragement.
