Bedroom tax.

Does anybody out there know anything about the bedroom tax? I have lived alone in a 2 bedroom council property since March 2017, when my daughter moved out. I receive Housing Benefit, but since then,I have had to pay a monthly sum for having an extra bedroom. Today I was looking online about exemptions from this bedroom tax, and it stated that if you are in receipt of the Daily Living Component of PIP,you are exempt. I am in receipt of this and have been since 1994 (when it was known as DLA). No one at the council has ever mentioned this to me. How do I find out if I've been overcharged for the last 8 + years? And would I be entitled to a pay back?

Daily Living PIP would allow for an extra bedroom to be paid for, if you require frequent overnight care from a non resident carer.

Hello @Spangles1963.
Thanks for your post. I just wanted to check, where did you read that information? It might not be completely accurate.
As @Kimi87 mentioned, if you have regular overnight care from someone who doesn't live with you, you can apply for an extra bedroom, which means you wouldn’t be affected by the bedroom tax for that room.
Sometimes this gets mixed up with the rules about non-dependent deductions (like when adult children live with you), which are different. That might be where the confusion came from.
Hope that helps clear things up a bit!

Thank you Charlie_Scope and Kimi87. I found the info online when I Googled 'Bedroom tax exemptions'. Obviously the info wasn't entirely accurate.
