Have you struggled with an eating disorder in the past, have recovered from this for at least one year and have an autism diagnosis?

I am a master’s student in Mental Health and Clinical Psychology, seeking to recruit participants to partake in my research.

My research interest is investigating similarities and differences between autistic women with average or above average intelligence and non-autistic women in their lived experiences of eating disorders and eating disorders treatment.

Why participate?

To help investigate the impact of neurodiversity on experiences of eating disorders and experiences of treatment for eating disorders.

To improve the understanding of mental health professionals of what you thought was helpful or unhelpful in your recovery from your eating disorder.

To help a fellow autistic woman complete her master's 😊

Who can participate?

Women over 18 with an autism diagnosis with average or above average intelligence who have recovered from their eating disorder for at least one year and have received treatment for their eating disorder in the UK.

How will the study take place?

I will interview you for about one hour either online or face-to-face on the topic of your lived experience of an eating disorder and your lived experience of having received treatment for your eating disorder. I will ask the same set of questions to all participants with the possibility of some follow-up questions during the interview. All questions will be sent to you prior to the interview so that you can decide if you are willing to answer these questions. During the interview you are allowed not to answer some questions if they are too triggering for you.

Are you concerned about how the study will take place?

Both my supervisor and I have knowledge about autism and this study has been designed so that you will feel comfortable throughout the duration of the study. I am also autistic and understand the needs of other autistic women so it was important for me to make this research autistic-friendly. If you have any concerns, feel free to contact me.

What about anonymity?

All identifiable information will be anonymised. You will just have to verbally confirm that you have an autism diagnosis (no need to show proof), that you identify as female (no proof needed either), and lastly confirm that you are over 18 (no proof needed).

What to do if you’re interested?

Send me a private message and I will send you a participant information sheet so that you have more details about the study and can choose whether you would be interested in participating in my study or not.

Thanks in advance for your help !
