HHood afternoon to everyone. after a traumatic life event I found myself struggling with mental health issues. I had no money at all and after my award for lcwra was added to my universal credit claim I was encouraged to apply for pup. my first contact was april 7th this year, my phone assessment was on may 21st and I asked for a copy of tge assessment report the day after. that arrived 3 working days later and although I was told to only ring if change of circumstances I decided against waiting and frantically rung daily. it paid off because I had a text from dwp on 6th of June at 8.01am to say they'd awarded me pip. at 9am I rung on the off chance and they were extremely helpful and told me exactly what my award was, what date the backdated money would ve paid (11th june) and when my first pip payment would then be due. I know ideally they want you to wait 8 weeks etc but in my case I have been through such a rotten 6 months, the thought of 8 weeks of uncertainty was too much to bear and thankfully my journey with pip at every stage is been straightforward, easy to understand and most importantly less traumatic than the lcwra part of my financial journey. not everyone is as lucky as I have been, hang in there and just because you are told to wait 8 weeks from a script all staff have it doesn't mean you won't get a different script a day later. hope everyone has an easier time than a lot I've heard about. capita did my phone assessment and the report was 100% accurate.

Hi @newhere - & welcome to the community. Thank you for sharing your positive experience of claiming PIP; I'm pleased it went smoothly. We mostly hear when claimants have difficulty with PIP so it's always good to see when that hasn't been the case!

I hope your PIP award goes somewhere to making life easier for you.

Thankyou for the welcome. To be completely honest it's not only going to make life a little easier, it's going to change my life completely and give me a real chance at living it as opposed to barely even existing. Mental health issues are devastating and the financial impact of a sudden marriage break up almost made me question the point of existing. I am lucky with family support, a great gp , a mental health outreach team and now this supportive community. always thankful
