It's that time again, the longest day of the year!

The summer solstice (also known as midsummer) is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. This astronomical event takes place annually between June 20th and 22nd, and signifies the start of astronomical summer.

Here's some lovely summer solstice facts for you to amaze your friends with:

The summer solstice features the most hours of daylight and the fewest hours of night in the Northern Hemisphere.
This is due to the Earth's axis tilting to 23.5 degrees, causing one hemisphere to lean towards the sun while the other leans away.
In the Northern Hemisphere, the summer solstice marks the sun's highest point in the sky and the most direct angle of sunlight for the year. So of course, for the Southern Hemisphere, this marks the start of winter.

While it's the longest day of the calendar, the summer solstice isn't necessarily going to be the hottest day of the year due to the time it takes for the earth to heat up. But this year, it may well be, so please be safe outside, stay covered, wear sunscreen and stay hydrated.

The summer solstice has been celebrated for many centuries, with traditions like bonfires and festivals observed in various cultures, linking it to crop cycles and boosting the sun's strength, many national trust locations, such as Butser Ancient Farm in Hampshire also celebrate with a public event, to give people a taste of the pagan days.

Fun fact; The word "solstice" comes from the Latin words "sol" (sun) and "sistere" (standing still), reflecting the sun's apparent pause before changing direction.

Do we have evidence that this actually happened last night or is this yet more speculation on the forum?

I would like to see photographic proof! Thank you.

I saw the sun going down, then the sun coming up again several hours later @WhatThe is definitely happened. Though, I would have preferred to have been sleeping. 😉

    This Salmon Act?

    (3) It shall be immaterial for the purposes of subsection (1) above that a person’s belief or grounds for suspicion relate specifically to a defence in respect of anything done in good faith for purposes connected with the detection of references to the relevant investigation.

Since you didn't bother to do your research 🤣 I've posted the important points here -

32 Handling fish in suspicious circumstances.

    (1) Subject to subsections (3) and (4) below, a person shall be guilty of an offence if, at a time when he believes or it would be reasonable for him to suspect that a relevant offence has at any time been committed in relation to [any fish to which this section applies] , he receives [that fish] , or undertakes or assists in its retention, removal or disposal, or if he arranges to do so.

    (1A)This section applies to—

(a)salmon, trout, eels, lampreys, smelt and freshwater fish; and

(b)fish of such other description as may be specified for the purposes of this section by order under section 40A of the Salmon and Freshwater Fisheries Act 1975.

I urge you to further research this before commenting further...

    🤣😄

Aye! And I know for certain you commented before you perused the Metropolitan Streets Act 1867, Section 7 -

"No person shall drive or conduct any cattle through any street within the limits of this Act between the hours of ten in the morning and seven in the evening, except with the permission of the Commissioner of the Police."

"Any person driving or conducting cattle in contravention of this section shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding ten shillings for each head of cattle so driven or conducted."

Does this include section 7, or are you just trying to get out of paying that 10 Shillings fine?
