    Have you reached out to your OT department? They are arranging a hospital bed for me.

    I think it depends on the sort of mattress you want. As @Ranald says, an OT can prescribe specialist beds, water/ air mattresses etc. However, if it's just an orthopaedic mattress you're after its something you're expected to finance our of your PIP or AA.

    Have you searched for a furniture recycling project, Red Cross etc?
