Powerchair users

I wondered if anyone with a powerchair would be willing to disclose which drive wheel configuration they prefer, and why?
I am leaning towards a rear wheel configuration, but can see the advantages to both mid and front wheel drive.
The Quickie Q700 R is top of my wish list, but why are they so damned expensive?

are you in it permanently? Or just while out? Iβve got a folding one that we put in the car with a hoist, rear wheel drive. They do tend to veer with the camber of the path though, a bit like a supermarket trolley does.

Thanks Helen, I am a scooter user who is considering pretty much permanent powerchair use. I can walk a short distance, and have heard all the 'use it or lose it' rhetoric from clinicians, but they aren't the ones who have to suffer!
They say rear wheel is more able for kerbs and slopes, but has a larger turning radius. Front sound good for getting close to tables etc, and mid can turn on a sixpence, but i think the castors look dodgy for rough ground.

Does anyone have a mid wheel drive? The are obviously sensible for turning in tight spaces at home, but are those castors at front and rear not a problem offload?

Hiya @Ranald
I have a Pride Quantum Q4 atm, which is mid drive & after trying all three, I prefer mid drive & mine is like a safe, secure tank that is easy to drive, good over drop kerbs that aren't & turns on a sixpence. Like you, the Quickie Q700 R is one I would like, but, yes, the price!! I will go for an iLevel/elevating seat next, as the prices are lower & some come up secondhand, so will keep it in the stable of Pride, with the Q6 Edge 2 or Edge 3 Stretto & mid drive.
Any chance you can get to a showroom to try the three & get a good idea on what you prefer, as it's still spending a good deal of cash & you need it to be right & comfortable.
ETA: Forgot to say, I can't go offroad so no help with that, sorry, only bumpy paths & dusty tracks.

It wouldn't be my money so no big deal! Seriously though the Q700M Pro basic model is about Β£9.5K , a snip compared to the up, which stands you up. That is well over Β£20K!

How about the best of all worlds -

The Q700 is smashing, the seating on it is perfect & the price is much better. Great that you're not too worried about the cost, just finding the one to suit you. I haven't seen any secondhand, which is what I have to look for.
π Now that's serious! I might be able to offroad in that, if the seat came forward to get me.

If you have a lot of money, then you can't buy anything better than iBot.

WOW, that is serious @Wheeled_Weapon! π That would be good fun & I could be useful too, love it!

I can think of a fair few things better. Just can't type them here due to 'decency'.

@Wheeled_Weapon, I looked at the others & this one would be ideal for tracks & forest near me, sweet!

That's terrific, mate, I can easily answer the door and use the toilet on that!

I have very little money but family want to help. Your chair looks good but I wouldn't anything without a large support network.

Meanwhile, back on planet earth⦠I should have known this thread would decend into farce! ;-)

Look at the positives - You wouldn't need to pay anyone to widen your doors π
