We should be happy to support less able Metro Wednesday June 18th 2025
[ ] To add to thoseresponding to Claire's claim (MetroTalk, Thu) that working peoplehave a 'problem' with people getting more than they earn ondisability benefits.
I'm happy if they have more money in their pocket rather than those who are working.
These people already have a difficult life – why I should be jealous if they have extra income? Good for them.
And anyway, I bet its notenough to pay for all the expenses they need to live on – the NHS doesn't provide for all your treatments.
I have hands, I have legsand if I have less income than someone who ise disabled, the problemis probably me or because things aren't working properly because ofsome world crisis. It's very easy to make people think the problem isdisabled people and their benefits.

Utilitia made to pay for £277,000 costly error Metro Wednesday June 18th 2025
Utilita will pay around£277, 000 in compensation after failing to process
warm home discounts on time.
Regulator Ofgem found the energy firm, which supplies 800,000 customers, failed to pass on the mandatory £150 discount to more than 4,000 vulnerable recipients in2023 and 2024 because of an internal error.
Utilita apologised.

MadMilan, I've got the Metro and read both stories. Well done for posting the Utilita story!
Scope will change this thread title if you ask them so it can reach members who are Utilita customers and may have missed out in both years. Lots of members mentioned not receiving theirs as usual.
(there is no 2025 welfare act but a UC/PIP bill published last week)

Thanks for sharing @MadMilan2019 ☺️ I've altered the title slightly so members can see it.

In England and Wales, you'll get the Warm Home Discount automatically this winter if eligible
If you live in England and Wales, you will automatically receive the Warm Home Discount for 2025/26 if you receive one of the following means-tested benefits on 25 August (the qualifying date for the payment).
- Housing Benefit;
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA);
- Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA);
- Income Support;
- Pension Credit (both the Guarantee Credit and Savings Credit elements will count); or
- Universal Credit.
The £150 is typically deducted from your electricity bill between October and March. You may be able to get the discount on your gas bill instead, as long as your supplier provides both your gas and electricity. For more details, see our Warm Home Discount guide.
I am always happy to help - people ask me oft en what compassion is because they know I'm a practicing Buddhist of 26 years?
Well I'm not enlightenednly wise - Firstly its about not thinking too much, beuing present to someone's needs, listening, and just acting on their wishes, they say what they need you give it. Its about being genrally helpful, willing amnd cheerfully doing helpful commonsense things, not engaging in too much doubt.
I am glad the response of forum people to my info re Warm Home Discount is greatly helpful.
Compassion: spot the need/gap. Cater for it6; fil it in. Simple.
By the way I campaigned with many of you that WHD should not be an online form application as so many of us disabled people have so many disabilities, e.g. mine a traumatised memory from a violent attack, but that WHDs should be automatically awarded, as the government has promised

I'm reproducing a mailing from SCOPE here:
Hi Milan,
We have 2 pieces of breaking news to share with you today.
MPs set to vote on benefit cuts on 1 July
You’re one of over 4,300 campaigners who’ve already asked their MP to vote against benefit cuts. Thank you. MPs are due to vote on these plans on 1 July 2025, so we must keep the pressure up. Share the action on social media to keep the momentum going.
101,025 signature petition delivered to 10 Downing Street
On Monday, we delivered our petition against benefit cuts to 10 Downing Street. It sent the Government a clear message: the cost of cuts would be catastrophic for disabled people and carers.
Thank you for being one of the 101,025 people who signed the petition, Milan. By adding your name, you’ve made this issue impossible for the Government to ignore.
Members of Scope’s campaigns team outside 10 Downing Street with 3 Scope storytellers: Rachel, Myles, and Layla.Myles told us why he helped deliver the petition:
For me, attending the hand-in at Downing Street is personal. Like so many others, I’ve had to fight through a system that often feels designed to wear you down rather than lift you up. The constant explaining, the reapplying, the feeling that you have to prove your worth just to live with dignity.""Being part of this hand-in is a reminder that our voices matter."
"I want decision-makers to see that these are not just numbers or policies on a spreadsheet. These proposed cuts will affect real people, every single day."
"If I can help make even a small difference for others, then it's worth showing up to hand over such a meaningful petition."
Our voices do matter. And together, we must keep pushing.
Thank you,
Mo
