So i just got my first Motability Car! and DWP sent me a letter just to inform me that obviously my allowance will change from my next payment which I knew anyway but I've never properly read most of my other letters from them apart from my original entitlement letter 😅, and I don't know whether I'm supposed to report these changes to them- since my assessment in 2023 I've gotten diagnosed with a couple more health conditions which aren't expected to go away, not that the ones I was claiming for originally will either- although I think the assessor seemed to think that judging by the language she used in my entitlement letter 🙈 and one of my conditions which I wasn't on medication for originally and they refused to take into consideration because of this, I have now been medicated for and see a specialist. I'm just worried that if I report these changes, then my entitlement will change. Should I report them now or wait till my reassessment next year?

Hi @Creatively_Lilac, welcome to the community. How are you getting on with your car?

As PIP tends to focus on how your conditions affect you day to day, you don't need to report a new diagnosis. However, if your conditions have deteriorated to a point where you feel you'd be entitled to a higher award, then it may be worth letting them know.

If you feel your symptoms haven't changed too much, then it could be better just to wait until your next review and update them about your diagnoses then ☺️

Thank you! I'm gonna just wait until my review, my conditions fluctuate so whilst they definitely are worse than when I was first assessed at the point of my diagnosis, it's not causing a big enough issue to warrant me reporting it I think. I'm still taking lessons as I haven't passed my test yet! It's taking time to get used to driving with hand controls too but hopefully I'll get there soon

No problem @Creatively_Lilac ☺️ Learning to drive can be a bit tricky at first but it's such a good skill to have. Hope the rest of your lessons go well and you can get out on the road soon!
