Government Climbdown, is it what it appears as or is it something else ?

The problem with the climb down as I see it. PIP claims are reviewed and treated as NEW claims at each review. For e.g. if you are awarded PIP for a 3 year period at or before the end of the period your claim will be reviewed and treated as a NEW CLAIM. Under the revised climb down this could still lead to many thousands of folk losing the benefit at the review stage due to the NEW 4 point rule. Could this be the Govt get out clause ?

    Hi

In my experience my pip reviews have always been treated as new claims.

Exsisting claimants will be assessed under the current criteria and will not be subject to the 4 point rule.

This is exactly how I see it as well. I honestly don't feel like anything has changed. I didn't realise it was all claims - I had it happen to me because I went to tribunal for my original claim (according to the person who conducted my review). But yes, there are no lifetime PIP awards, so this is basically a non-promise to me too.

I think this also applies if you are in hospital for say, 6 months, and lose your daily living etc, and then have to reapply.

I am not sure if those now supporting the bill are aware of this. Or whether it is too late to try and make them aware before Tuesday.

One of the concessions given was that reviews/assessments would be looked at again by committee & service users, we can only hope that the 4 point rule is dropped. Better still that the vote on Tuesday is defeated and the whole thing is thrown out. There are still plenty of Labour MP's that are still going to vote against the bill, we can only hope there are enough.

In my experience, they take into account your previous awards as evidence and try to weigh up whether you're receiving the right assistance, need more support, or less. Even if your PIP support is reduced, I don't think they'd class you as a new claimant. But it is hard to trust this government and the people at the heart of the civil service making these decisions.
