Hi, my name is Welshlin!

Hello, this is my first post. I live in Caerphilly , South Wales and am proud to be Welsh. I have had mobility problems for years but became severely disabled and a wheelchair user 15 months ago. I’m finding it difficult to accept and adapt so it’ll be great to hear how other people have met the challenges. Hope you all enjoy the weekend.

Hi @Welshlin - & welcome to the community.
My mother-in-law was born in Pembrey, then later lived in Llanelli, & was always proud of her Welsh heritage. My daughter has been down to visit her cousins there a couple of times, & sends me photos of all the places her Grandma used to mention, especially Pembrey sands!
It must be difficult both accepting & adjusting to needing a wheelchair. I hope you'll find that being a wheelchair user may give you that bit more freedom considering the mobility problems you have.
I'm a long-retired physio & the first job I had was working in the regional spinal injuries unit & helping my patients get their independence back just that little bit at a time. I also saw their struggles.
I've said before on the forum perhaps things have been easier for me, as I have an inherited disorder, so I didn't think much about it growing up as that was just my 'normal.' I did start to have increasing problems that I couldn't ignore as I got older, so for many years now I've been practicing the exercises I used to teach, 'very gently' I might add!'
This is a very friendly & supportive community (with quite a few Welsh people), so I'm pleased you have joined us all.

Thanks for that Chiareids. I’m sure you’ve had plenty of challenges along the way. I live alone so the physical struggles are a big issue but equally hard for me is that I feel like I don’t know who I am any more, I’ve lost my sense of self and can’t seem to find a new ‘me’. I do regular wheelchair exercises (YouTube) as I’ve probably put on a stone since I’ve been dependent on the wheelchair. But it’s not helping much. Thanks again for the welcome.
