PAYMENTS DURING TRANSFER FROM ESA TO UNIVERSAL CREDIT

I have just been transferred over to Universal Credit.from ESA. A deduction of £600 has been taken off the first Universal Credit payment I would receive for the month, because I am still getting ESA payments (had my last one a week ago.)

It this normal? If that deduction was not taken out, the amount they paid me would be about right, I think. Does anyone think this deduction for ESA will stop after the first month? It is all so confusing.

The deduction amount and ESA payment timing suggests you are now receiving UC & New Style ESA.

Please see this thread for an explanation:

    Hi.

    While we're at this.

I migrated from ESA on 28th June to UC, just a day after my payment date, which was 27th June.

I've asked them to pay me fortnightly. I know people receive their last two weeks for the last time, but since the DWP staff member says that it'll first take a full assessment period and that I would receive my first payment on 3rd August, I thought I wasn't going to receive any payment before the 3rd of August, but I've received today ESA payment for the past two weeks. Is this normal, because I don't want them to claim me overpayment later on?

    The following was their advice:

"Please note that it will take a full assessment period for this change to take effect meaning you will recieve your full payment on 3rd August 2025 but going forward after this date you will recieve fortnightly payments from Universal Credit."

    Thanks.

ESA payments are not linked to UC.

You can't be paid UC fortnightly, instead it's twice a month with half your UC award arriving on your fixed payment date, and the other half arriving 14-15 days later, date to vary.

On 3rd August you will receive a full UC payment.

On 3rd September you will receive half your payment followed by the second half 14-15 days later.

ESA ends once you apply for UC, apart from one final payment known as the run on payment.

This usually arrives around 2 weeks after you've applied for UC.

Do you mean 3rd August as the DWP staff member said it. Why should I get a half on the 3rd August, as between today, which I've received my last 2 weeks payment of ESA, and 3rd of August there are more than 3 weeks?

    Thanks for your time.

As advised ESA ends after applying for UC, apart from the final payment known as the run on payment. The run on payment usually arrives about 2 weeks after you apply for UC.

UC starts to be paid around 3 weeks after the last ESA payment, about 5 weeks after you have applied.

The UC advisor has told you the Alternative Payment Arrangement will take one full Assessment Period to start.

This means on 3rd August you will receive a full UC payment. Then after a full Assessment Period on 3rd September your twice monthly payments start.
