Help please - migrating to UC, will we lose money if my disabled husband is my carer?
Hi my husband and I are in the process of migrating from support group esa to uc,I'm in the support group we both got the severe disability premium and both claim standard rate adp,as my husband has disabilities to,we did the claim and got asked in for identity check whilst there they said my husband needed to a meeting with a work couch to discuss his commitments we said he couldn't work, she said to claim he's my carers it all happened quickly she helped with the form, but I just don't have a good feeling and worriex we've done the wrong thing as he's disabled how can he be my carer and I did mention this the work couch said its fine it's only emotionally he helps you, will this all be fine or impact us financially thanks 😊

Under UC in a couples claim the LCWRA element can only be paid once to one person.
Your husband is the one who can't be paid so that is why he was asked to see a work coach.
The usual advice in your situation is for the person not getting LCWRA to claim Carers Element.
Disabled people absolutely can be carers.
LCWRA element is £423.27 and Carers Element is £201.68.
As to finances if your total UC award is lower than legacy benefits, Transitional Protection will be added to your claim to ensure you aren't worse off at the time of transfer. This does erode over time as other elements go up or new elements are added. Effectively your payment is frozen until the usual non TP rates catch up with your award.

Thank you for your reply I really appreciate it,was so worried as not getting answers from uc,was just concerned with him being disabled if this would interfere with his adp or our claim as this just all is so complicated ,thanks again you've put my mind st rest,so I did a change of circumstances to add that he was now going to be caring for me is that all I need to do ?
