Photos

What started as a day planned to sit by the river, listen to music and get inebriated turned into 7.3 miles mainly climbing hills. I love climbing hills in my chair.
The photo above is the entrance to the secret pond. Technical in a wheelchair but easy if you know how. I didn't go there today.
Bumped into a friend when I got back into Durham so chatted for a while. Got bus home and sure I saw an old man in my home town with dangly earrings that I'm sure were real human teeth. Didn't want to stare for obvious reasons 🤣😮
Had a quiche and ten Peperamis for my tea 👨🍳 #athlete 🤣
Tried hydrotherapy last Tuesday too. It was very nice but made me want to start swimming again.

Thank you for sharing your photos and recounting your day. Your perspective offered a refreshing reminder of the importance of breaking free from routine, even when motivation feels elusive. I’m genuinely pleased you had such an enjoyable day, and the photos provide a vivid visual narrative that beautifully captures your experience. I hope you have a relaxing evening after all that.

#Wheeled Weapon,
Thank you for returning and sharing you photos. You appear to have some lovely green spaces where you are! Sadly, down south, vast amounts of 'green space' has been taken for housing or retail places and we have been deprived of such areas to visit and enjoy.
The river looks quite clean and reasonably 'full' considering the lack of rain there has been so far. Do you know if it is used by anglers? I can think of a few anglers who would delight in fishing there. (Not me!, don't get pleasure out of 'fishing', yes, I have tried it. My ex husband and younger son both Carp enthusiasts!)
How do you cope with propelling yourself for seven miles? That takes quite a lot of energy but I guess as you have maintained a good upper body fitness, it is what enables you to do so! Well done you! my fitness levels remain to the extent of the physio routine that I have to try and preserve mobility in my arthritic joints and 'crumbling' vertebrae. That said, I have never been a person for liking sport or keep fit etc… but have managed to use (before retiring) that my job kept me fit!
I'm sure you must feel much better for being out and about and taking great photos rather than sitting by the river drinking to become inebriated. but instead enjoy your surrounding area.
Am I correct that it appears to be University Building or just offices? I couldn't quite make out the sign on the building. Another observation is that your roads and pathways appear to be in far better condition than they are in the south. I also note that there are roadworks with 'temporary' traffic signals. We can't seem to travel anywhere locally without there being road or pathway repairs going on (or not) as the case may be!
Couldn't make out what object was resting between the branches in the tree.
I am so pleased that you venture out most days and have a great hobby with the photography. I do enjoy looking at your photos and some of the things you capture through the lens. Thank you for sharing, it has brightened my day.

I appreciate you sharing your photos - very much! For someone like me who can rarely get out I love seeing them. Some remind me of places I've been and evocative of my past days of freedom! I hope you carry on posting them. And thank you for sharing them 😊.

Thank you. I'm glad you enjoy the photos 😀
Durham is a beautiful city and an excellent training ground for me 💪🤣
The river Wear running through Durham is filthy in places. Apparently they're dredging a section of it because the boats were grounding during the Regatta this year. The level of the river really varies and with it being particularly hot, the river was very low.
We've even had a couple of floods in the past, covering the roofs of cars parked alongside it.
Some parts of the river you can fish with just a licence, some parts are owned by the Angling Club. I used to fish there when I was younger, it's mainly Trout. I always threw them back though.
I have various routes I take for exercise and that is one of the tougher ones, it's a lot of hills to climb including some very tough sections. Thankfully there's not too many people about to witness me grunting & snarling up those parts 🤣 Some call it determination but up North we call it 'brute force and ignorance' 🤣
That building was supposed to be the new County Hall, but upon completion they decided (after spending £50 Million) that it wasn't suitable, so they sold it to the University. It's now the University Business School.
Can't complain about the roadworks as it looks like they're fixing the pavements around the Hospital.
I can't see an object resting in the branches, but I'll take a closer look.

Thank you 😀
I love taking photos, plus it's the perfect excuse to rest when climbing all those hills 🤣
I'll keep posting photos. My issues with other aspects of the forum shouldn't stop me from doing that, so I will continue. 📷

#Wheeled Weapon,
I'm pleased that you are willing to continue with the photos, it is so nice to see a bit of the Country that I've not been to. I have friends that lives in Northumberland and have visited them a couple of times which has been great and enjoyed the views around where they live and of course the drive over the Boarder into Scotland. The most I've seen is from a train carriage on my journey's to and from my visits.
I guess the Wear is rather like most of the rivers here as you say not only depleted of water but 'dirty' too with contaminates. It was probably sensible to return the Trout when you fished for them, although I know you can take Trout, with the polluted rivers I'm not sure I would want to eat them from a river.
Thank you for clarifying about the building for me, I couldn't quite decide if it were University or Offices. What a waste of (tax payers) money to build a County Hall then decide it was not fit for purpose! At least the University have been able to make use of it.
You certainly have chosen a challenging 'training' ground! What better though to challenge yourself with exercise around a beautiful part of the Country. Whatever you call it determination or 'brute force and ignorance' if it does the job then what does it matter?
Well repairing the foot paths around the Hospital is a vital project. It just 'struck' me that you managed to get a photo of said road / path repairs with the temporary traffic lights. Down in my area, it seems that there are endless roadworks / path repairs, so much so that it is hard to find a stretch of road that doesn't have roadworks on them! What is worse, is a patch is repaired then a few weeks later they are repairing another patch where they've just completed (or at least removed the temporary traffic signals etc..). Only to replace it a yard or so from the patch just done. Why they can't repair all the patches (better still re-surface the whole section, as they appear to do in Europe). They seem to have this misguided idea that to re-surface the whole or at least substantial length or carriage way is cheaper than making endless repairs! I don't have the phot to hand that I think I saw something caught between the branches but I may have been seeing things!
Thank you for taking the time and trouble to post your photos, it appears more than just me appreciate them. Have a 'Good Day', hope weather is kind for you today. I've got to get on with chores, so will not be venturing out far today, unless I go into town to pick up a prescription from the Surgery that needs taking to a different Pharmacy for dispensing as it cannot apparently be obtained locally.
