Didn't go far today, just to the secret pond in Durham. The route to it is more technical than it looks, but it's a lovely peaceful place that not many people know of.

Here it is, the secret pond. Spent a while here enjoying the peace and quiet.

Then headed back the same way I came. Look at the state of the rubber on my caster wheels! I've only had this pair about three months!

In case anyone was wandering, I do this stuff on Schwalbe One tyres. They're pretty much everyday racing slicks. I do have proper offroad wheels but only really need them if it's wet and boggy out. You don't really need specialised equipment for most dry terrain.

There's been a respectable number of bees this Summer.

I wonder if any of these have four leaves 🍀

Only did around 4 miles today, my shoulders are still a little sore from the big climb on Saturday so took it a bit easier.

    Splendid photos thanks WW.

Just one of many joys of living in County Durham is the wonderfully diverse terrain and landscapes here.

Coal mining was immensely profitable here around the Edwardian/Victorian eras, and land very cheap. This lead to mine owners (etc) building huge estates. Many of them have man-made secret lakes/gardens/forests/streams.

That and the frequent collapse of mine shafts, reclaiming of mine waste areas, reservoirs and infrastructure result that I can think of seven "Secret ponds" within about ten miles of my house. I expect there are more. It's a splendid (if sometimes hilly!) place. That's not even to mention the beaches.

    Enjoy!

Lovely photos thank you for sharing! To the left of the clovers photo, above the middle, looks like three little creatures/ sets of eyes 😊

    #Wheeled Weapon,

Good evening, I don't often check my emails this late in the day but delighted that I did and saw your fabulous photos! Thank you for sharing! You did well to manage to get the bee just right on the flower! It certainly looks a most appealing, quiet spot. Glad you were able to get out and enjoy the fresh air plus the wonderful wildlife.

Don't know much about the wheels but yours do cover some distance and terrane, so little wonder you replace them more often. Would your others designed for more tougher areas not be better for some of the more secluded areas you visit? Where to tomorrow?

Have a 'Good Evening'. Thank you for the amazing photos.

I haven't seen a bullrush in years. Thanks so much for these fab photos. I've never been to Durham but will definitely put it on my list of places to visit with my daughter.
