Ssdp transitional protection

Migrated to uc last year and recieve ssdp transitional protection as no other adults in household.

However my adult child would like to move back home for a period of time due to a relationship breakdown but I am worried how this would affect my uc and ssdp transitional protection. I currently recieve maximum housing ellement as spare room is used for over night carers. Would I loose my ssdp as I know if I was still on legacy benefit I would no longer be entitled to it if another adult lived with me.

Also would my council tax support be affected? Benefit calculator says not due to me recieving pip but I dont know if this is correct or not.

I want to support my adult child but I dont want to be worse off as I could not afford to loose something I won't get back when they were to move back out again in a couple of months time.

You no longer get SDP so what's relevant is the Transitional Protection.

I'm going to recommend consulting a trained benefits advisor, because your situation has several elements which make it a complex question.

    https://advicefinder.turn2us.org.uk/

You get a spare bedroom paid for due being on PIP, having a free room and needing overnight care from a non resident carer.

It isn't clear to me how another adult moving in would impact your Transitional Protection, or bedroom entitlement for Housing Element as presumably you will no longer have a spare room.

It's possible your entitlement would reduce to one less bedroom.

There would be no non dependant deduction made to your Housing Element (whether that's for one less bedroom or not) as you get PIP.

Council Tax Reduction is decided on at a local level, so we can't advise on individual cases from here.

I think one or two of the benefit calculators include the correct local authority rules.

So as I won't get a non dependant dededuction due to having pip my housing ellement won't be affected but would I lose any or all of my transitional protection due to a non dependant child moving back. I really dont understand what actually affects tp. Will someone start claiming carers for me have an effect?

Someone claiming Carers Allowance for looking after you has no impact on your Universal Credit award including TP.

There is the bedroom allowance aspect of HE to consider and whether that would change with him moving in, and whether that in turn would impact your TP.

Your Standard Allowance and LCWRA would not be effected by him moving in.

There is some guidance here on Transitional Protection, but I'd urge you to seek advice from a trained benefits advisor as the list isn't exhaustive.

I will try and find a benefits advisory service i can phone for help.

But surely my bedroom allowance would remain the same if she moved home even if she stays on the sofa and not the bedroom currently used for overnight care. As I already recieve maximum amount for the size of property, technically I would be entitled to a further bedroom but that would be more bedrooms than the property has so irrelevant

Or do you mean that they may make a deduction for the spare room being changed from carers use to non dependant use. Overnight care would still be required but she could provide it
