PIP: mobility

I receive PIP for my mental health problems. When I was assessed I wanted to claim for mobility because I used a walking stick. I was refused the mobility part. I am now disabled and use a mobility scooter; I cannot stand or walk for any length of time. However, when I tried to claim PIP for mobility, I was told that because I am now past retirement age, I will have to claim Attendance Allowance.

My question is: if I claimed before retirement, can I appeal the PIP judgement?

In order for me to claim AA, I would have to come off PIP for mental health and claim both sections on AA but I worry that I would lose everything.

    It would not be a good idea to try to claim AA as this does not contain a mobility component. If you are in receipt of PIP you can't be awarded the mobility component if you have reached State Pension Age unless you challenge the PIP decision. What was the date of the PIP decision? Did you ask for a Mandatory Reconsideration of the decision?

    AA only has a lower rate & higher rate.

    When was the decision on your current PIP award made?
