Severe disability premium

Hello,
I moved back in with a distant family member over a year ago. This person receives ESA, PIP and housing support. I myself work but receive PIP. Prior to me leaving for a short time, they received the disability premiums in full because I myself received PIP daily living component.
My PIP came for renewal during my short absence and I lost my daily living component. During this time I moved back in but this family member lost their disability premium due to the strict rules on household member criteria.
I appealed my PIP claim and the decision was overturned and my PIP daily living standard rate was backdated to before me moving back in.
From my understanding this person is now eligible to get the disability premium again from now. My question is can we backdate this to the move in date given that it is around 1 year now. There shouldn't be any other reason why they can't get it.
Thank you for your help!

Yes you should be able to get it backdated.

I thought so. Thank you. What would be the best way of getting in touch with them for this?

I would suggest doing that over the phone.
If you search the forum for "sdp backpay" there are quite a few threads written by people who have done the same.

thank you. Just had another question - they have received a letter to transition to UC by October. Hopefully we get on the phone to ESA this week to set ask about the back payment. But will this back payment affect UC? Will they still get the back payment if they inform ESA this week but in the time it takes to process end up transitioning to UC?

Hi,
They would still get the backpayment if migrated to UC before it's completed.
They should also get Transitional Protection added to their UC to bring that up to the rate of ESA + SDP.
