National Food Bank Day
In 2023/2024 there were 7.5 million people (11% of the population) experiencing food poverty, of which 18% were children.
So it’s no surprise that food banks are becoming increasingly critical for many families across the UK. A lot of food banks are run by charities and aimed as a temporary supply of emergency food.
In 2023/2024 the Department for Work and Pensions reported that 2.8 million people living in households that had used food banks in the previous 12 months.
In 2024/2025 Trussel supplied 2.89 million emergency food parcels. To read more about the amazing work that Trussel do, you can access their website here - Ending hunger together | Trussell
National Food Bank Day is a stark reminder that no one should go to bed hungry.
But it’s not just food provided by the volunteers and social workers associated with food banks. They do much more to promote tools for self-sufficiency.
So today, we thank those organisations and individuals for all their efforts in supporting so many families. 💚

It's worth noting that many cities and towns now also have independently run community pantries, which don't need appointments. So they're good to know about if you're desperate.
The name may be different depending on your location, but it's worth asking on local social media groups, or contacting your local council.
