🧡National Ginger Cat Day - September 1st 🧡

What a purrrrfect (sorry) excuse to spoil your cats even more!
National Ginger Cat Day was founded by Chris Roy in memory of his beloved ginger cat called Doobert. Chris found Doobert as a stray kitten in 1997 and the two spent 17 years together. When Doobert sadly passed away in 2014, Chris created this special day to celebrate the joy ginger cats bring into our lives and to shine a light on the importance of animal rescue and adoption.
So, today we are going to celebrate these types of cats who are known for their distinctive fur and often larger than life personalities. I guess it makes sense why some of the most famous fictional cats in pop culture are gingers! Garfield and Puss in Boots for example!
Fun Facts about Ginger Cats
- Most ginger cats are males (about 80%, due to genetics)
- Ginger cats are more likely to develop black “freckles” on their noses, lips, and gums as they age
- Ginger cats’ coats come in five different varieties and these are the classic swirl pattern, the striped ‘mackerel’ pattern, the spotted pattern, the patched pattern or the ticked pattern
- Ginger cats get their orange color from a pigment called pheomelanin, which is also responsible for the red hair in humans!
- Ginger cats can put on weight quickly as they have a trait of perpetual snacking
Do you have a ginger cat? Or do you know any other famous ginger cats that i've missed out?
