It came up on my news feed that the government want to monitor the banks if you have more than £500 in . They will be be working with dwp, student finance . That money going into your account however small like gifts from family etc. That could mean that the bank freezes your account while they look into it. I hope its not true. Getting UC next month which would have rent including. My daughter student loans

They were saying as well about needing ID in supermarkets for getting ordinary food. Again is this scaremongering

    @Andi66

    The banking bit relates to fraud checks coming in 2026, only for savings over £16k. No £500 threshold, no freezing accounts, and gifts from family aren’t tracked. Student Finance isn’t part of it.
    The supermarket claim seems to be confusion around age-restricted items. No ID needed for ordinary food.

    It very much sounds like scaremongering.

    What site was the information from?

    Is it April Fools? It would mean anyone receiving benefits monthly would flash up, where would the staff come from, as there is a backlog on everything as it is. And, I have no comment on the supermarket ID story!

    I don't know who Patrick Christy is, but from that, I really don't want to know.

    GBeebies, why even go there? That's like a BAME person attending an NF rally. The disabled are their targets, not target audience.

    I don't know about those sort of things, as i have never been on Facebook or the like.

    Hearing i could be assaulted by GB News, i'm convinced i made the right decision to avoid!

    Yes, it's scaremongering. It's also hate speech masquerading as news. GB News is the UK equivalent of the USA's Fox News.

    Yes, it's scaremongering. GB News is propaganda masquerading as news. It's not credible and you're better off not assuming anything they say is true.

    GB News had a state side launch party last night, as they're expanding into the USA and will be streaming on President Trumps' Truth Social plus platform.
