Can we inherit memory?

Just trying to connect to people with a lively curiosity about everything and similar interests etc.
Had an interesting conversation recently about reincarnation. I respect the views of those who believe in that but the logical part of my brain prevents me from accepting it. There are however some documented accounts of people whose experiences defy all logic. My explanation is inherited memory.
Science has proven that we inherit tangible traits, such as eye colour etc. There is also evidence that we can inherit intangible traits, such as an ability or 'gift' to play a musical instrument, so it seems quite logical to me that we could also inherit memory. It could explain why, when we visit somewhere for the first time, it seems oddly familiar. This happened to me some years ago and I'm sure some of you would have experienced it too. I look forward to reading anyone's contribution to this!
Sara (ever curious)

Interesting subject. I've always wanted to try 'regression' through hypnotherapy to see if I've lived before … but my PTSD has always stopped me … in case I get stuck in the trauma.
That's possibly irrational and not possible, but still puts me off
As for deja vu … yep experienced that, quite disconcerting sometimes. The same as a couple of dreams have come true
I've driven hundred of thousands of miles in 40 years, but there's one stretch of road 10 miles away, I'm like a learner driver on. I get very uneasy, slow my speed right down and hold the steering wheel until my knuckles are white. It's only about 400 feet and then I'm fine. I'm convinced I've either died there or worse going to die there 😁
I actually mentioned it and that theory to my Psychologist, whilst she didn't debunk it, she did look at me rather strangely. I think weird sprung to mind … along with the thoughts of sectioning me 😝
No joke being on that road though, I've never met a lorry on it yet in all these years, but when I do, I think I'll wet myself

A relative (who is literally speaking a rocket scientist) thinks there's two elements to being "intelligent"
You need to be able to retain knowledge (memory) and you need to be able to use it (application)
His theory is that loads of people have one or the other, withouht being considered intelligent, but anyone you can think of for whom you'd use the word "genius" will have both
He thinks one is inheritable and the other isn't, but I can't remember which. 😂 If it was the memory aspect, I assume he was referring to inheriting the ability to memorise things, as opposed to inheriting actual memories

As I said, interesting subject and interestingly enough after reading up on it, whilst memories can't be passed down by sperm and egg … they can be passed down by epigenetics. An altering of the DNA that can cause intergenerational trauma … fears that you don't know why you have them … but they're there in your head as passed down through the generations
Possibly epigenetics kept our ancestors safe all those thousands of years ago ?
My daughter has the same phobias as me - deep water and spiders and a hate of the smell of Lavender but it's not something we've discussed for her to feel the same

I've often thought our individual inexplicable fears (phobias) are a clue to how we died in (at least) one previous life.
For example, I'm terrified of fire, and always was. There were zero fire-related incidents in my childhood so it didn't stem from there. I think the fear was there before I even really knew what fire was.
Of course, my brothers insist it's because I was burned at the stake as a witch in a previous life.😛
My partner, although he can swim, is terrified of drowning. Again, no childhood incidents to have triggered this, but he has that fear.
I think he was made to walk the plank in a previous life! 😁

Memory will likely be inherited or species would be in peril. learning by error will be somehow imprinted on genes so next generations no what not to do. Or what to do for optimum survival. Thats my concise view.
Emotionally/spiritually, I have a few things that flash into my mind, exactly the same image each time. I live through those few moments of each one as though there. They are distinct pictures of a place/time/image. This is where someone would say reincarnation, could it be relatives memories that though not about furthering survival are pleasant snapshots of the past that I can actually feel not just see.
Sensing danger or getting feelings about somewhere(WelshBlue) could possibly be an incident had once occurred in that spot. How that works, no idea but I get that too.
I choose not to believe in reincarnation because 1. I believe in God Almighty and 2. I aint coming back, not no way no how 😂😳

I wrote along the lines of similar things … but the great moderation filter gobbled it up for now. Hardly any point posting here anymore. Just ruins the flow of threads

@WelshBlue that's a pity about your comment.
I've re-read your comment, and it's as though you're my soul-sister/brother.
There was a particular stretch of road we travelled near our caravan. The caravan was situated in what was land in which I 'Clan' ruled for centuries.
I always pleaded to take the longer, coastal road, when heading into/from the nearest town. Sometimes my pleas were listened to, sometimes not. I just didn't like one small stretch of the road. It made me feel sick, and really, really scared/trembling.
When I was about 10, I started investigating the area and that wee stretch of road (100/150 yards) was adjacent an area renowned for witches/witchcraft practices.
As an adult, I always took the coastal route, rather than the quicker route, no matter how much of a hurry I was in!!
I have also been advised against hypnosis, and lucid dreaming, of any sort due to having C-PTSD.

I also have a fear of fire
And drowning I can't swim
I'm. Terrified of wasps

@Amberpearl looks like, if my theory is correct, you're on at least your third reincarnation!! 😋

Lots of contributions and I thank you all for sharing.
My only experience was during a trip to Scotland some years ago. We were doing ancestral research, the plan was to present all the information to my Mum for her 60th birthday. We traced her great grandfather to a farm in northern Perthshire and went up there to take some photos. The owners were really lovely and gave us a tour of the farm. I pointed to an open field and asked if the buildings that used to be there were where the farm workers lived. She said no, that field had never been built on.
They also did holiday lets and we exchanged details as we thought we might book one of their cottages the following year. It was probably about 9 months later when a letter arrived from the farm owners (no emails, internet back then). She told me they were having some work done on the farm and it turns out there had been some temporary buildings on that field after all. What she was astonished by was my description was exactly as they appeared on the old plans from the 1820s. I really don't know how I knew about that but for the sake of my sanity I've decided I somehow tapped into a memory of my g-great grandfather, who was a ploughman on that farm in the early 19th century.
