Hello all and best wishes.I have started my PIP Calim online but am unsure of how to complete the health conditions section.Sigmoid Colitis diagnosed January 2020 (colonoscopy) with no follow up evaluations, medication or treatment received.IBS offered as cause of pains. On 28th July i was admitted to hospital with severe abdomen pains and underwent emergency surgery.Perforated Sigmoid diverticulitis,Divericulitis disease and Peritonitis being diagnosed .As the diseased part of colon was removed i no longer have Sigmoid Diverticulitis ? Do i still have Diverticulitis at all ? COPD being a condition diagnosed 4 years ago but other than Sigmoid Colectomy, should i be adding anything else? Appreciate any advice offered. Many thanks.

🙂

Each question on the form asks you to stare how your conditions affect/ disable you.

The medical history you quote is worth including but whether or not you still "have" Diverticulitis is irrelevant. What counts is how and to what degree your mobility and daily life activities) are affected by your colon problems.

Thankyou for your advice Zipz.So my Sigmoid Colectomy should be listed as a condition on my application. It does however state that the condition and the difficulties caused should be in effect for at least three months ? My Colectomy happened on 28th July this year, although pain symptoms i have had for many years.Your thougts?

    Many thanks

Hi. I'm new to this post, so I was just wondering whether it's worth attempting to claim for pip, with all the fuss going on about it. Suffered from rheumatoid arthritis for 30+years now and not getting easier. Just sorted claim for migration from old esa to uc out(6months now). If I'm successful with pip, will it affect my new esa and uc payments and housing benefit? If so is it worth it? Any advice will be gratefully received, by the way I'm in support group with esa,and get full hb. Many thanks.

You generally shouldn't apply for PIP if your conditions are expected to improve within 12 months.

The only impact PIP might have is on your UC Housing Element.

If you are awarded Daily Living, have a spare bedroom and receive regular overnight care from a non resident carer, you may be able to get one extra bedroom paid for.

Thanks for the advice. Like I said I've had rheumatoid for 35 years and it's not getting any better. If anything, it's deteriorating to the extent I've now got osteoporosis. Among other things. Kimi87 you say it might affect my housing benefit. But if so, by how much? Would they reduce my benefit of hb but I'd only recuperate it with pip? How much is daily living allowance do you know? I've no idea. Would it be worth the hassle? I get 100%hb. That's £94.98p/week? How do I find out? Many thanks. Socrates.

Housing Element is paid according to the number of bedrooms you need.

For example if you live alone in a one bed property PIP doesn't impact your Housing Element.

If you have two bedrooms, and receive regular overnight care from a non resident carer, a PIP award of Daily Living can mean Housing Element will pay for the extra room. Without PIP they wouldn't pay.
