Any advice for surviving an employment tribunal

Hi I wondered if anyone had any ideas for how to get through a really stressful employment tribunal claim for unfair dismissal and disability discrimination. I had been off sick for a few weeks following major surgery and complications when with no warning or anything I got a call terminating my employment.

My legal team have said I have a strong case but it’s taking its toll on my and my husband’s mental health.

I’ve never been through anything like this before. My employment termination happened in 2024 but due to the state of the legal system my case may not be heard until 2027 or later- has anyone had any experience of how they have coped they’d be willing to share or does anyone know of any support forums for this.

Many thanks

    Hi @Overwhelmed1

I don't have much knowledge on this topic unfortunately but potentially, some of our members may have been through it and can offer further information and support.

There is challenging disability discrimination at work and information about employment tribunals that I found which I hope will be helpful

The mental health toll of employment tribunals is one of many reasons most disabled people cannot go through with them. So sorry you're both dealing with this.

If you both aren't able to deal with this, giving up is an option. That's absolutely ok to do so. Especially given Tory and Starmerite austerity means you'll be waiting years. The terrible judicial system is not your fault.

If you do decide to go through with it. make sure you have lots of personal and professional mental health support around you, even if you have to pay for it. This includes a therapist.

Are you both in work? If you are, can you go to part time? Do you have any savings to dip into?
