Well the conservative leader has announced should get party be elected at the next general election she plans to pull the UK out of the EHCR.

While this is being done they say to allow immigration control, it will erode the rights of disabled people.

While currently the UK would still be signed up to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), removal of the EHCR could mean it's more difficult to take public services to court and would result in lack of protection and access to legal reviews.

I know reform have also stated the same.

Also would mean that problems/issues would not be monitored or reviewed other than by the government in power.

We know how well politicians are at being open and transparent, and for protecting the vulnerable in society (tones of sarcasm should be clear).

I think it's worth noting the next elections are years away and a lot can change between now and then. But it is worrying hearing what some parties have planned.

I hear what you're saying, and I agree the ECHR is meant to protect our rights. But in reality, it's out of reach for most disabled people.

Legal aid has been slashed so badly that even when there's a clear breach of rights, many can't afford to challenge it. Judicial review is expensive, complex, and often stacked against the individual. Human rights claims require money, stamina, and legal support, things many disabled people simply don’t have.

The UN has written to the UK government about how disabled people are being treated. But the government ignores it, because Parliament is supreme and doesn’t have to act.

So yes, the ECHR is there. But for most disabled people, it’s a right they can’t afford to use.
