Blue Badge Parking in Council Car Parks

Many Councils charge Blue Badge Holders to park in their car parks although on street parking is free. Is it legitimate and reasonable for councils to charge blue badge holders? If not, why not?

Cheers

The pay and display car parks in my local authority are free for blue badge holders which I appreciate. I don't mind paying for using a car park with my Blue Badge. Some local authorities do give an extra hour for parking. Others charge all vehicles.

From my working background I understand why the charges are in place. Just because a person has a disabled badge, doesn't mean they can't afford to pay for parking.

    Yes it's fair to charge.

Blue Badges are about allowing access to convenient parking, which is not the same as free.

By having BB spaces in a paid car park, BB holders still get the advantage in terms of accessible parking with spaces located near to exits, wider spaces etc.

I pay my local council £10 a year because I have high rate mobility and that allows me to park in all my local council car parks using my bb

I can't always find a parking space during busy times but its worth its weight in gold.

I had this discussion with my next door neighbour. I cut off their moaning about having to pay in the hospital car park. Why shouldn't they, ' bad back' or not?

They moan all the time to me, like I am about to leap out the powerchair and vault over their fence. Too self absorbed to see my difficulties.

Being a blue badge holder does not entitle you to park free in a none disabled bay at any time unless stated

    I didn't say it did.

I am perfectly aware of the rules but if I find a space the £10 I pay to the council yearly allows me 3 hours concessionary parking in our local council run car parks.
