Universal credit LCWRA OR LCW

Hoping for a little advice.
my friends son is 24 and has autism which means he is unable to work. He does get PIp but this was stopped due to not submitting the review forms back on time. However this is being addressed.
the main problem he is having is that he gets UC and applied for limited capability for work. He went through the assessment and was successfully awarded.
however he has been told he won’t receive any extra payment.
From my understanding he has been placed in the Limited Capability for Work (LCW) group meaning he is not entitled to the extra money that comes with the Limited Capability for Work-Related Activity (LCWRA) group. Meaning he will be expected to participate in work-related activities, such as meeting with a work coach, and will receive a standard Universal Credit payment.
What is the best way to challenge the decision and begin the appeal process . And why would this have happened

It means he has been assessed as not meeting any of the LCWRA descriptors.
First you have to ask them to look again at the decision (Mandatory Reconsideration). Not many decisions are changed. The next step is an independent appeal tribunal hearing which has a much higher chance of success.
If you want to find help with the process
I'd recommend making the MR in writing, as with over the phone you can't be sure what they are writing down on your behalf.
