Worried sick
New goverment rules are worrying us silly. Bith hubby and i his full time carer suffer with anixety.
He gets lower living( 1 point off) anf enhanced mobility.
With new 4 points thing on pip and now the the chancelor saying they are going to scrap the Tax exemption on motability cars.
How the hell are we meant to pay the deposits on cars now, as theyll go sky high. ??
We live rurally, no excesable uses. We have to dial a mini bus. A taxi would cost a fortune and will they tale his mobility scooter or chair ?

Nothing has yet been officially announced and there is a lot of scaremongering going on as usual.
The four point rule has been scrapped as far as I am aware.
Try to ignore rumours and speculation.
Its obvious that its not doing you any good.

I wonder if people getting the vehicles on the Motability system will have to keep their vehicles longer.
Maybe the government are tying to force people to use public transport which is not available in many parts of the uk.

One thing I relized is how they love to drive fear im starting to belive they do feed off it try take one day at a time its cruel worrying womt add a day to our life's they been throwing everything at us im sure they cant take mobility scooter away 2023 I went down bad because of sunak and all thier scare tactics I was terrified shaking with fear so completely get how your feeling try not to drink the posion they feed us I

Yes sunak started all this, for years now we had constant worries since then with our disability benefits. UC being brought forward from 28/29
They just want to punish us for being disabled. Starmer just as bad, yet his mum and brother were disabled, Ed Davy son disabled, who don't they tackle those who are unemployed, not disabled. I saw a article where it said a jobcentre employee said its impossible to get employers to take on disabled people. So where is these magic jobs coming from, because places are closing due to reeves last budget

When a Motability car is bought, it is initially at zero vat but after 3 years - it is sold at auction with 20% vat added - so if they increased this to 4 or 5 years, the amount of vat the government gains would be lower - so not a good move !
And as for "60's style invalid carriages" - can you imagine the carnage on the motorway - limited to 40mph !

the only reason I know of this blue vehicle as I see it locally sometimes. The driver must be 90 or older. It is about four miles away at the surgery. WOW are they allowed on the motorway

These old INVACAR vehicles used to be registered as TRIKES - but as for motorway use - I certainly hope not !
Although with 500 or 600cc engines could do 82mph

The problem with Motability is the system is abused. I know three people that lost their cars.

There are bound to be people who abuse the system. Maybe if we get back to pre covid face-to-face assessments, it will sort the wheat from the chaff.

These cars look like they'd keel over if Mr Bean flew past in his Mini.

When I was a lad ( am I really saying that already?) They used to be parked up around the touch line at football matches. People think mobility scooters are cumbersome?

Hi @Woodcock21, sorry that you've found some of the responses unhelpful. It's a worrying situation and I don't think any of our members intentions were to cause you any further distress. It's a really tough time for people and the proposals you hear about in the news are pretty frightening when you're already struggling.
The four point PIP rule idea has been scrapped for now. We're waiting for the results of Sir Stephen Timm's review before we know more about what (if any) changes may be made to the PIP system but it's looking unlikely that this idea will be brought back. The review won't conclude until Autumn time next year so things will likely be staying the same until around that time.
As a couple of other members have said it's really difficult for us to say what will happen to Motability with any certainty. We've learned what some of the ideas may be from the news but haven't had anything confirmed quite yet. Once the Autumn Statement is out later in November, we'll hopefully have some more details and Scope will be campaigning against any harmful changes.
In the meantime, we have a post up here for anyone who would like to share their experiences with Motability:
