Reminder: Clocks go back this weekend! 🕰️
Don't forget that on Sunday at 2am, the clocks will go back an hour
No more British Summer Time for us, we're back on Greenwich Mean Time. Most digital devices like computers and phones will update automatically, but don't forget to check all those other little clocks around the house. I'm forever forgetting my microwave and oven!
Why do the clocks go back?
Back in the early 20th Century, there had been debates about changing the time for a number of years. Most were arguing that it would help productivity as we'd be able to make the most of the morning light. In 1916, a new campaign was lodged. This one was successful and for most of the years since we've been moving the clocks every Autumn and Spring.
Clock change facts
- Clocks always change during weekends. This was seen as the least disruptive for businesses and schools when it first came in.
- Roughly 70 countries across the world have some form of daylight saving time.
- During World War Two, 'double summer time' was introduced. This meant that the country was 2 hours ahead of GMT. In the Winter, this was reduced to one hour.
- An experiment between 1968 and 1971 saw the clocks go forward but not back again. This was then abandoned in favour of our current system.
How are you feeling about the time change? Do you feel like it messes up your routine or does it make things easier?

I'll probably still forget! 😅 Grateful that technology updates a lot of my clocks for me.

I get surprised by it every year too 😂 and I do the whole thing of trying to remember what the old time is for the next week, even though it's probably better just to get on with living my life in the new time.

I can't imagine many people actually get an extra hour of sleep. Our body clocks have got used to BST now and will wake us up at the same time as in recent weeks. Personally I don't like the clocks changes at all. They mess up my sleep & digestive system for weeks afterwards. I would prefer that the clocks didn't change at all, however I've never lived during a time without clocks changes, so perhaps the extra daylight hour does make a difference in summer.

I went to bed at 22:00 2 nights ago, and 05:000 this morning, until 11:00. I don't know up from down! My life runs on when it rains or not for dog walking. I still think they should leave the clocks alone.

With most of my technology updating automatically I had a moment of confusion this morning when my son burst in asserting it was 6am (his bedroom clock hadn't updated) and my phone was assuring me it was actually 5am. No extra hour in bed for me!

I get how you feel. When it's breakfast time, my dog is the same way it doesn't care what the clock says.
