Hi, my name is finlayh00! Would we be eligible for UC if we have shared ownership of a house?
Hello, so I'm just enquiring my partner inherented his house a few years ago shared between 3 others, we have recently moved into a rented property due to the condition mould damp and basically falling apart, his 2 brothers currently live on the property both addicts and mental health, I'm currently 20 weeks pregnant so wasn't any ifs or buts about staying there
Anyway work have decided to cut my hours to bare minimum but partner still works 50 odd hours a week but we are starting to struggling with bills
Would we be eligible for UC and housing benefit given the current shared ownership

Hi @finlayh00 and a warm welcome to the community from me!
I'm not 100% sure as benefits can be really complex but there is Turn2us Benefits Calculator so if you put your details through that it should tell you at the end what benefits you are entitled to😊

If his share is valued at over £16k, then there will be no entitlement to UC.
Even without that, a deduction of £0.55 in every pound earned with his age is likely to lead to a zero award anyway. Unless you already have a dependent child, in which case he can earn £411 before the standard deduction is made.
I'd definitely recommend using a benefits calculator as suggested.
