Methotrexate
I just wondered if anyone else had been on this drug.
I was taking methotrexate for six months and all of my body hair stopped and gradually fell out. The hospital put t me on baracitinib to counteract the problem which has not worked, I mean no hair growth at all apart from my head. Absolutely smooth as I was born.
I spoke with the consultant at hospital she had a look. She smiled and said in a nice way that us women would pay a fortune to be like that and it can be permanent for some patients.
has anyone else had problems with methotrexate and hair loss

Hi @jonf. I've been on methotrexate before but never experienced hair loss; I didn't know it was a side effect! How are you feeling about it?
Do you have any other side effects? When I was on the tablets I was really sick for 2 or 3 days after taking them. I had to stop the injection as it developed into a bit of a phobia.

it can cause hair loss.
methotrexate made me very sick.Ended up with Stephen Johnsons syndrome and in hospital again so they took me off asap.
At least the hair on my head and eyebrows is still strong. I have noticed a few comments while in the therapy pool. I know very unprofessional but clearly people notice as I still sometimes need a hand getting dressed.
Not sure if I dated someone how they would feel.
must dump these at the hospital pharmacy as there a four left plus another few.

If someone has an issue with it then they're not the right person to be dating. It's interesting that it's only the hair on your body and your head hair is still ok. The body is an enigma!
Do the comments make you feel uncomfortable? If they do, I'd mention it to them so they know.

am obviously conscious about it, maybe for a female it’s different.
I spoke with the consultant and he said it is less than .001% permanent but tests show that nothing will change. They even had me on testosterone to try and kickstart the growth
hypothalamus or pituitary gland now damaged.
They tried several other meds such as Baracitinib and five others to kickstart the hair regrowth but none worked.
I Have accepted it now.
the ladies at the therapy pool who work there I think surprised. I have a very close professional relationship with them as they have been with me on this journey0 -
I inject 25mg of methotrexate weekly, have done for about 6 years now. It can cause hair thinning or loss but usually folic acid is taken on the 6 days you dont take it to counteract it. I've had hair loss in the beginning but it sorted itself in a few months.
It still makes me sick so I take anti-sickness tablets on the day I inject. I also inject a biological drugs fortnightly and I'm doing quite good for the 1st time in a long time so for me side effects are worth not going back to the crippling pain I had.

folic acid made my insomnia worse and they don’t like giving it to peeps who have sustained a head injury because of seizures.
as for hair loss I have some very fine ones and I mean a few only. Probably was born with more body hair than I have now.0 -
Well that's something I didn't know @jonf you learn something every day. I've always taken it in the morning and it doesn't affect me at all so I never realised it could cause problems.
Saying that I can't take any supplements without running it passed my specialist nurse!

Everything action has a reaction in the world of medicine. Always know what you are taking.
