Pip underpayment confusion

So I filled in a change of Circumstances in September 2024, had my review in July 2025 and just received my new award going from standard mobility to enhanced daily living. I was told I was due an underpayment of just over 6k and that it had been refused by debt management as I owed nothing to anybody

I then received a call from my claim manager saying that he has decided due to a split decision that although my underpayment says 6387 on the system he will now be changing it to 2136 and not to question why it has dropped by over 4k

He wouldn't go into any detail of what a split decision means or why he's decided to take over 4k off the underpayment I am owed

Has anyone had this happen to them before as I've been left very confused, any advice would be much appreciated

Can you confirm what your award was before you reported a change in circumstances? Which component/s were you receiving then and what you were awarded after the review?

I was receiving standard mobility, then after my review they took away my standard mobility but awarded me enhanced daily living

Hi @Blue_since_1981, sorry that no-one was able to answer your question. Did you get this sorted?

This has happened to other members of this forum, where they got a reduced amount of back pay.

I was told by the claim manager that his calculations were correct and that I shouldn't question his judgement and he did not need to explain his decision in writing i decided to escalate the situation as I was adamant a mistake had been made and after 10 days of back and forth and speaking to half a dozen or more claim managers I was finally called back by the supervisor of the claim manager who actually went through the entire claim with me, listened to where I believed the mistake had been made and after 2 hours on the phone he admitted a mistake had been made and after apologising he released the full payment, I would urge anyone who feels a mistake has been made to push it all the way and demand a full written explanation of how they calculated your back payment as if I had taken his word for it I would have lost out on almost 4 thousand pounds

I think some claimants are just glad to get their award and don't want the additional stress of what you want through to get the extra money unfortunately.

That's amazing news @Blue_since_1981! A great example of why we should stand up for ourselves.

Yea I totally understand why people give up, I was close a couple of time, the way I was spoken to made me feel like I was a bad person for pursuing what I believed was rightfully mine, I was even told by the claim manager I shouldn't worry what the underpayment amount was and should just be grateful I was getting something, I'm just glad it's over and done with and I got the outcome I always believed I was entitled to

Thanks for that and well done! There are also members that did not get any back pay and should have done, so there seems to be an issue with back pay currently.
