Is PIP Daily Living Component Back Dated
Hello everyone. I had several heart attacks in April and May of this year and notified PIP of a change in my circumstances. The review was held on October 1st 2025 and I received a letter dated 31st October 2025, saying that they had increased my daily living component to the enhanced rate. The thing is, they have not backdated this to May and have said in the letter that this new rate commences from October 31st. Is this right, or should this be backdated? Thank you to you all.

Hi @TobytheExplorer you might be entitled to backdated PIP depending on the time taken for the decision. When did you initially make the claim?

So, it is roughly six months. What I do not understand, I have been on PIP for about eight years now, is that she increased the award, but seems satisfied that it should commence from October 31st, which to me does not make sense (almost contradictory)?????

This is unusual. Generally, if the DWP trigger the review, then there's no backpay. But if the claimant starts the review, there is normally backpay.
I would say it's definitely worth contacting PIP to check why they have decided not to give backpay in this case.
