Disabled Bay Objection

I'm seeking advice on how to address the objections received by my local council regarding the proposed extension of my disabled parking bay. The council advertised its intention to increase the length of the bay around August, but they received two objections. A council staff member informed me on 8th September that, due to these objections, the process would be lengthy. He explained that he needs to prepare a report for the local councillors, but he has many other cases to deal with before attending to mine.

For context, the disabled bay was installed around spring this year. One side of the bay is adjacent to a residential parking bay. The intention was for the other side of the bay to provide enough space for me to load my mobility scooter into the boot of my car. There is also a dropped kerb nearby, and I had expected the bay to be installed closer to it.

From my conversation with the council, it appears that the occupational therapist did not fully communicate my need for proximity to the dropped kerb due to my mobility scooter. As a result, the department responsible for disabled bays was unaware that I use a mobility scooter or require space to load and unload it. On several occasions, I’ve been unable to load my scooter because someone parked their car between the bay and the dropped kerb.

Would it be appropriate for me to ask the council staff for an update on the progress or to clarify the nature of the objections? I believe this issue could have been avoided if the occupational therapist had provided a complete picture of my needs. Additionally, there have been instances where vehicles were parked with their bumpers encroaching into the bay while their tyres remained outside the marked lines. This made it nearly impossible for me to park in the bay.
