Hi, I've just had a text saying my Pip review is complete, which is great, however, my Blue Badge has just discontinued my Badge saying my moving around section is not enough points to accept me for a BB!!!

This has worried me as I'm concerned Pip review hasn't been accepted. I don't know how BB was able to access my current Pip review report. I'm currently waiting for a review letter after a telephone review last week.

With Blue Badges often you have to score under certain PIP criteria, it isn't always about points.

You'd need to look at your local authority website.

It's possible to get standard or even enhanced mobility PIP but not score under the right criteria to qualify automatically for a BB.

There should still be discretionary criteria you can apply for, if needed.

Your GP can sign your blue badge form as mine came through my GP along with seat belt exemption.

I have recently had my first experience of getting PIP, then a Blue Badge linked to this, the 6 year PIP award (standard rate for both components), this is running out in February 2026, the review application had to be in by May. It’s not as vital for me to have it, as I don’t drive or have a car, but I have friends (one in particular) who take me to medical appointments, some shopping & more & it’s been used a lot.

I had an email from Norfolk County Council to ask me to reapply/renew, but there was nowhere to put information in about the PIP running out. Needless to say, this caused an issue, firstly I was told my passport photo wasn’t acceptable, they allowed me to do a selfie on my IPad. But yesterday, I had a dreaded email about needing to answer questions about my mobility. It’s awful as there are lots of detailed information they want, X - ray, MRI scans etc., to be uploaded to their portal (I struggle with this) or sent by post. It said they don’t want a GP letter, “just” the medical documents, I’ve had to call the surgery to find out where I get this information from. It says I have 28 days to do this, but does this include weekends & there will be the Christmas/New Year shutdown.

I don’t know what to do for the best, do I wait for the PIP review to be decided, but that could be well after 19 Th February 2026?
I’ve had a lot of extra stress recently from my Council Landlord “upgrading” my kitchen & bathroom & lots of hassle with it. About 3 weeks ago (I think it’s linked) my right leg & knee was in agony & could barely walk inside. It looks like my arthritis has flared badly according to an x-ray & I need to get on a waiting list for a knee replacement, which could be at least 6-7 months away.

Thank you in advance for any help.

A lot of hassle for a Blue Badge, my mum has one years and the Doctor got her it. I honestly cannot comment any further.

I have looked on my District Council's website and I could get a Blue Badge without assessment due to my awarded points for PIP Mobility. Since you have not mentioned your PIP award, you are now going through the assessment which does happen for people without a qualifying benefit!

Thanks all, I got PIP at standard rate for daily living & mobility, from 2019. As far as I recall the County Council accepted that award letter & I didn’t have to anything else.

I usually have a reasonable knowledge of the disability related issues, but I wasn’t aware that it would be such a long winded process, without the qualifying benefit. I did note that there was a threatening line that said, “just because you got it previously, doesn’t mean you will the next time”. Plus it’s what central government & Department for Transport guidelines want.

Your PIP award is still running so can you not just produce the award letter again or has there to be a certain time period remaining to use the award letter. I don't know all the rules unfortunately.

It looks like they’re saying they won’t or can’t accept the PIP award letter, as it only goes up to 19/2/2026 & that’s when my current blue badge runs out. They’re saying as this is the case I have to go into lots of detailed questions about my mobility & send lots of medical information.

I’m beginning to think it’s not worth the grief at the moment, as I’m not in a fit state. It was bad enough doing the PIP review form, which is almost as long as the original application & maybe wait until early February, see if a decision comes back from DWP. If not I could apply without it, now I know what details, reports etc., they want from me, which I need to access from the NHS App. My son, who is disabled from birth & has a managerial position in mental health in the NHS, helped with the PIP review. But he’s snowed under with work currently & his own health isn’t great, but he may have more time in February.

I gathered it was due to the short period left on you award. This has happened to other members of this forum, so you could search the forum and see what they did. It may be better to just wait for your PIP result and decision letter, than having to gather all that information for an assessment. I hope you get It sorted.

My blue badge previously expired when I was reassessed for PIP (Capita nurse recommended 0 points on everything, tribunal later reinstated previous award). So, I went through the form as the blue badge helps me when I have to go to medical appointments, etc. I'm glad I did as I had to wait around 18 months for the tribunal. I remember uploading medical evidence that supported the area of eligibility I had ticked on the form (mostly the relevant documents that I'd sent with my PIP review form) and briefly describing how my health conditions impact me (relevant to the criteria I was applying for a blue badge under). I then had an assessment with an OT from the council. I did not find the blue badge process as in depth or stressful as PIP (I haven't see the council OT report, but I did get a blue badge).

This is something that different local authorities deal with in different ways, but the government criteria for automatic qualification are 8 points for moving around. I think there is/was a criteria for 10 points/emotional distress in planning a journey.

But most local authorities also have discretionary, which is supported by medical evidence/prescriptions/description of disability.

The automatic presumes PIP/DLA have already done the assessing for them, so they accept the points as qualification. In the absence of those, however, medical letters outlining your disability and the reason for the BB are also valid. Depending on your local authority, you might have a local council office or community hub where you go and speak to someone face to face about this - or a phone number to ask them for advice about qualifying criteria.

In our area, it's not uncommon for a person to have a year's extension on a BB while waiting for the PIP review to be completed, because of how long this can take. That may also be an option to look into if there's a close line between one expiring and the other.
