will they ever leave us alone

For the first time, Jobcentre Plus staff are to regularly contact claimants of sickness benefits as part of a strategy to reduce the welfare bill. This approach will focus on two million individuals who are currently not required to seek employment or prepare for future work.

A significant number of claimants suffering from mental health issues, back pain, and other ailments, who receive benefits without any conditions, will now be offered skills training and assistance in preparing for work. According to The Times, ministers have directed job centres to focus on what they describe as a "shocking" rise in long-term sickness absence.

I think going by the awful wording in the article which I've seen before they are talking about the voluntary offer given on the UC journal asking if people would like support, although it's worded badly It can be completely ignored and they won't send more than two according to a recent FOI response.

There's absolutely nothing to worry about if you get one just say no thanks or ignore it.

I'm glad to hear a FoI response says the messages are capped at two.

I've had it twice exactly a month apart.

Hopefully then I won't get it again in December.

Those UC texts saying you need to read a message in your journal are still a worry though. You just don't know what it's going to be about, it could be that you're going to be reassessed for all you know.

The first time I got a UC text in years I was literally shaking before I read the journal thinking that I'm probably going to be called for a WCA.

They just don't want us to have any peace, ever.

What I thought odd was the woman who dealt with my migration actually said to my mum who's my appointee without even being asked, they'll be no more appointments, phone calls or any voluntary invites in the future and we'll not hear from her again.

We didn't ask why as I'm not into boat rocking I could take many guesses but never be right, only message I get is for "view your payment amount"

But I'm always on my guard a DWP assessor told me years ago I'll be exempt for life from further reassessments that was also untrue.

I personally won't take it as an insult if the DWP offer me help. Saying that, I have very little faith that they could offer me any real help.

There are bound to be those that are closer to the labour market, and in actual fact, will be grateful for the opportunity to get back to work.

The DWP will have to break with tradition, and really be prepared to offer genuine, tailored support. I wouldn't hold my breath on that being the case.

Unpopular opinion but I think some are forgetting just how many months they go without getting messages in the journal. They were left alone for all of those months and are likely to be left alone for many months ahead.

I also hate getting the email about a journal message due to the unknown, but get far more frequent stressful emails from my lettings agents. I don't think this UC offer is a bad thing, as there are plenty of people who want to work but don't know how to start. What right do we have to prevent them getting back into work? It's our anxiety that's the main issue in this case, not the DWP's actions.

I don't think the offer is a bad one, but perhaps two messages is too much for people that don't have any work related activity obligations. Maybe once would be more appropriate.

And it was definitely inappropriate to say that another poster would get a phone call, if they didn't respond either way to their message.

I agree for those that want the offer and can benefit from it it's certainly not a bad thing.

my concern is there's been many reports by the likes of fightback, Dr Jay Watts that they are copying and pasting LCW messages to lcwra and often leaving the word mandatory instead of voluntary in the message causing upset and fear.

personally I don't think it is an accident and it's a devious attempt to see who will do it without choice or testing for it to not be voluntary, but either way it's laziness and incompetent.

This may be due to the increase in working age people claiming ill health benefits since the lockdown, which has increased by 2/3 (two-thirds) in 5 years to an unsustainable cost. Changes to the benefit system are coming if it is liked or not unfortunately.

I imagine less people will qualify, once face-to-face assessments are back to being the norm.

I have to agree, the face to face assessments were cancelled for obvious reasons. There are many that think the increases would have been a lot less if they had not been cancelled. Not trying to say anything untoward here by the way, but I am sure one political party wanted the ones that got benefits on a phone call to have a face to face as soon as possible......
