I think people get into depression because they read into things too much. I don't just mean literally read, people carry the negatives and let themselves get taken over by them. i've been through the worst of depression and anxiety, and what I know is that whatever you're feeling now will fade. What I suggest is you have to do what you love as much as you can and you have to be around positive people inside a positive environment. This should help you be at your best and be who you want to be. Too many people drag themselves into unhelpful environments that cause them immense stress and anxiety, and that simply needs to go away. Be in control, be yourself and listen to what you inner self want and follow it! This will get you out of depression.

As for your gastroscopy, don't overthink it and try to ground yourself in the here and now. You're still alive and functioning, don't let worry steal your happiness.

That we aren't alone with our mental health can be a very helpful thing to remember thanks Bluenose1978.

Here's how I explain this kinda situation to myself:

Our imaginations consist of and contain all that we are. Everything we know. Both our greatest fears and our greatest hopes.

However, our bodies have evolved from animals who didn't even understand such simple things as that their actions have consequences. Therefore, we are hard-wired to be scared. That was safest for them so they survived. That's one of the functions of our adrenaline system. Adrenaline can hugely influence most people's imaginations and experiences. It's very powerful stuff!

We don't even have a gland that makes us happy. Our suprarenal body (beside our livers) drives our fears. At a chemical level in our brains, happiness is essentially just a lack of fear (in conjunction with our behaviour and other emotions etc.). This naturally causes an imbalance.

Huge numbers of people find themselves with an overactive adrenaline system. That's essentially the cause of anxiety. Just too much adrenaline. The butterflies in your stomach (because that's where our suprarenal bodies are) and you may then notice such things as your heart rate increasing.

I certainly don't mean to underestimate the challenges this can cause. I've known lots of (and have lived with a few) people who find anxiety a problem.

It's also my experience that effective counselling (and sometimes medications) can help. I've noticed that Cognitive Behavioural Therapy seems often to be constructive in the treatment of anxiety. I'd encourage you to explore that, even if you have before. But my only experience of anxiety is anecdotal or a memory. One of the curious results of my disability is that my adrenaline system hasn't worked for 35 years (since I was 17). That however brings it's own challenges and I'm not advertising my disability!

    Good luck

    😺
