How do you make housework less of an energy crash?

I live in a small flat, but somehow housework still manages to wipe me out if I’m not careful. With a dodgy arm and wobbly balance, even things like laundry and cleaning the bathroom can turn into a full workout.

I’ve started breaking jobs into tiny chunks and using anything that saves bending or carrying too much. It’s helped a bit, but I’m still learning.

What tricks or bits of equipment have made day-to-day chores kinder on your body?

I prioritise clean dishes and clothes, wet cleaning of the hard floors bottom of the list, everything else in between.

I recently had a tough fortnight where only dishes, laundry and a bed change was done 😊

I change my fitted sheet & pillow case weekly & duvet fortnightly (flipping over halfway).

The big heavy blanket gets draped at the bottom & pulled back up when it's sheet change only week, and taken off & rotated top to bottom on full change week.

Getting lightweight items such as laundry basket, mop and vacuum has really helped me. A perching stool for the kitchen has proven invaluable (why did I wait so long?).

One thing I can highly recommend is a robot hoover!

I bought a Shark one that empties itself into a base station after each clean, The base station needs to be emptied every 60 days(if you run the Shark daily).

It will first map your home with the Lidar sensor, lasers and cameras, once the map has been created you can simply ask Alexa to start cleaning and the Shark will thoroughly clean all your floors(it will also adjust suction depending on floor type and if it detects a "dirt alert" it will keep cleaning that area until the scanner detects it's clean).

Main things to look for are ones that create a map, have a dust collection base and lidar/laser/cameras for navigation etc, It's also important to make sure it has good obstacle avoidance.

I used to clean my house from top to bottom every fortnight.

Since the pandemic, I pretty much do no more that occasional vacuuming, and a quick wipe of the toilet. It doesn't seem to have killed me yet!
