DLA backdated

I made a claim around April of last year for DLA for my son. Around 5 months later I was told it was unsuccessful. I attempted to apply for a manual reconsideration but they couldn’t do it as they couldn’t find my sons reference number.

As a result I contacted them earlier this year for new forms and am awaiting their decision. Now as I far I know, any backdated money will start from when I rang for the forms this year. A friend of mine however says that it’ll be backdated from when I rang for the forms last year.

Who’s right, me or them?

Hard one. Probably from when you phoned this year, but theoretically your old claim is not closed either as the DWP failed to complete the Mandatory Reconsideration you asked for.

Hi @TWA1968 and welcome to the community. As Trevor said, it's a tricky one. I would think you would get backpay from the date you applied this year but I'm not sure. It'd be best to contact them to ask as it's a unique situation.
