any arrears/backdate due to me?
hi, so i was awarded a standard rate for pip in 2022, due to expire jan 2025 i belive it was 240 every 4 weeks rising every april, this year it is 290. last year pip wrote to me about a review. in june, i sent an evidence letter from my therapy about the history of my diagnosis, which is ddocumented as starting in 2010, but getting worse from late 2023. in december 2024, they wrote saying that my pip will now expire on jan 2026 . throughout thei year, they sent numerous texts to tell me about doing assesment. i was scared, i changed the date twice, it was finally done on 17/10/25 on 17/11/25 the award person called to say i am now awarded enhanced on both components. he asked when my problems started getting worse. he asked how i can cope with bulk payments, he asked who i bank with. on 18/11/25 the text me to say the review is complete. when i recieved my usual 4 week payment, on 20/11/25 one day later, i recieved another 33 i recieved the award letter on 25/11/25 it says my new rate which is enhanced on both components will be paid on the usual date in december. they said the 33 is to cover 17/11/25-19/11/25. it also says "we may owe you some money, we will write to you about this on a later date"
ive called pip 3 times, the first lady is not sure but she did say if they backdate, it will be from last year when i sent the evidence the second person said, before they release any backdates, they chEck with dwp if i hAVE ANY DEBTS, AND IF ANYTHING, I SHOULD EXPECT A LETTER BY 5/12/25. THE THIRD LADY WHO CLAIM TO BE MORE KNOWLEDGABLE SAYS THE 33 IS THE ARREARS AND I SHOULDNT EXPECT ANY BACKDATE AND THEY ONLY PAY ARREARS FROM THE DAY THEY MADE THE DECISION(17/11/25). SHE SAID THE DECISION MAKER THAT ASKS ABOUT BIG PAYMENT IS REFERING TO MY ENHANCED PAYMENT FOR DECEMBER ONWARDS… SHE ALSO SAID WHAT THE LETTER SAYS ABOUT " WE MAY OWE YOU SOME MONEY, DOESNT GUARANTEE ANYTHING…..BECAUSE OF THE WORD "MAY". DOES ANY ONE HAVE ANY KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THIS SUBJECT PLEASE. I m baffled, i dont know what to think anymore

Hi,
There is no specific rule for this.
Because DWP started the review, they do not have to give you any backpay.
But some decision makers choose to give backpay.
All you can do is wait for the letter.

@HOTAYAC12 Congratulations on your award. As OverlyAnxious has said, this was a normal PIP Review and they do not normally issue backdated pay. It would be only from the date of the decision anyway. Rarely they may give some backdated pay if they think you should have been on your new PIP award earlier, but this is rare!
