Hello,

I'm only 40 going on 41 in two months. I did work for ten years and am on SSDI but I want to do more than only sit in the house all day while my kids at school. Help me please

Hi @sharnaw23 - & welcome to the community. It seems like you're in the USA, & sorry I don't know how benefits work there as this online forum for Scope is based on those in England & Wales.

Can you check & see if something like doing some volunteering work might be an option for you whilst on SSDI?

There are plenty of ways to learn online. Most universities have some free access courses and there are apps like Duolingo which teaches languages and maths and music. I highly recommend it. It has kept my brain active through some dark times and I can now understand most of what I hear in several different languages. I can't say I can speak the languages because I am isolated and haven't had any speaking practice but there are ways to do that online too if you aren't as socially anxious as I am.

    Good luck 🤞

I learn an awful lot from TV documentaries at home. Can't read large chunks of text so things like OpenUniversity aren't for me but that doesn't stop me continuing to learn. 🙂

The internet also contains vast amounts of information regarding just about everything.

With practice we can get very good at finding reliable sources and subjects that interest us. There's an almost endless number of them.

Astronomy, sciences, philosophy, a float for every boat.

    Good luck, enjoy

Try fixing things in your shed, a shed is an absolute must if you need to fix or learn things. Thats if you can afford a shed.

Nobody bothers you, put some cable in there( make sure you know what you're doing with electric)for cup of tea or use one of those gas camping things safely. Sheds are really great for a quiet time to think or attempt to mend or fix stuff.
