UK POWER NETWORK
WOW My 3rd post today i'm on a roll!
Not so long ago we had 2 power cuts in my local area. The first power cut i was oblivious to because i slept through it but the 2nd power cut started late evening and lasted nearly 4 hours. The good news was that i received 4 or possibly 5 telephone calls from UK Power Network (i'd never previously heard of them) updating me on the progress of the repairs to my local **** station and a promise from them that because i am a priority list (i never knew i was on a priority list) my power would be one one of the first to be turned back on.
The good news gets even better because a couple of weeks later the postman delivered two free nightlight/torch thingy's from UK Power Network.

We regularly get power cuts. One time we got a £100 cheque from them because of a 6-hour service disruption.

3 or 4 Novembers ago, there were households without power for 2 weeks! That'll teach them to move landwards! It was a nightmare for the farmers, as fallen trees blocked their access to water for their animals. One farmer was making multiple trips a day to the nearby burn, with tractor and water bowser.

if you contact your water company you can also be put on their priority list. In case of a water cut they will deliver water to you. Instead of you having to collect it. Unfortunately my parents were out and their bottles of water were left by their gate. A race for life had happened that day and my dad arrived to see someone loading them into their car. At 85 years old he wasn’t going to say much. Fortunately the water was switched on shortly after. At least the water company tried.

How uncivilised, a neighbour to depend on! 😮 Would it be uncharitable to hope the water thief got a puncture on the way home? 😇

I am on a priority list with electricity and water. I asked for the electricity.

I think it was someone from the race for life. It’s a small, close neighbourhood and we all know each others cars. Dad didn’t recognise the person or the car.

Last time we had a power cut the power company paid for my dinner 😁 I was very pleased with myself.
All my housemates had gone out to avoid the lack of power, but I needed to be home so I was the only one with a free dinner that day. Had a lovely candlelit takeaway for one!
It's a good point to check whether you're on the priority lists for water and electricity. It can be really handy if something happens.
