You honestly don't have to inform the DWP if you go into hospital for just one night. Please don't 'google' as even the DWP sites get things wrong with this & in other instances. I certainly didn't notify them when last I was admitted (I also receive PIP) when I fractured my hip & I was in for 5 days.

Thats what I read that we even had to inform them of a one night stay which is ludicrous but I have wrote giving them the dates I was in which amount to 27 days in total.
I had a hospital stay followed by two readmission stays.
My award is ongoing for ten years.
I hope everything goes well for you with the surgery.

Sorry that the Scope helpline understandably went with the DWP's guidance alone. The DWP request info as they don't want anyone to receive an overpayment of PIP, which is also absolutely fine, but unnecessary if you're going to be in hospital for 28 days or less.
If you are readmitted to hospital within a further 28 days, then previous admissions may count (which is likely irrelevant here).
It's all a bit complicated, but going into hospital normally counts from the day after you go into hospital, & ends on the day before you leave hospital.
There are the Social Security (Personal Independence Payment) Regulations which relate to hospital stays, C meaning a claimant, i.e.
30.โ(1) Subject to the following paragraphs, regulation 28(1) or, as the case may be, regulation 29(1) does not apply to C in respect of the first 28 days of any period during which C is someone to whom that regulation applies.
I can provide links to these regulations, but I think this is a lot to take in, & I understand you feeling unsure. If you wish to inform PIP that you're going into hospital for your peace of mind, then please do so, ensuring you also inform them of the date you leave hospital.

I am so sorry sorry I still confused old pensioner so I don't have to tell pip I only be in hospital for 7 days i know for a fact I wont be in 28 days so I don't have to worry am I right ?

No need to say you're sorry, You don't have to tell PIP about a 7 day hospital stay, & I'm sorry if I have caused you further concern as that was not my intent.
You can let them know if you feel you'd prefer to. Your PIP payments will not stop if you are in hospital for 28 days or less, so no worries. Please do what you feel comfortable with.
