Partner moving in.

Hi there I'm just wondering if anyone can help prepare me for what to expect.

My partner will be moving in with me in the next few weeks.

My current benefits are UC at £538 per month, £183 of which is transition payment which I know I'll automatically lose.

I also get ADP at high rate for both components and new style ESA at £281 fortnightly.

My partner claims UC although he does work (30 hours per week from March-October then roughly 10 a week in the winter).

I've tried a couple of benefits calculators and the results were very different and now I'm just confused and worried we will struggle for money!

Any help or advice would be really appreciated. Thank you!

New Style ESA & ADP are not impacted.

The benefits calculator results depends on input being accurate.

Your UC award will be based on your circumstances as a couple.

New Style ESA will be deducted from your joint UC award.

Your partners earnings will be deducted in line with the work allowance due to your LCWRA element, this is the amount of money that can be earned before UC make their standard deduction of 0.55p for every pound earned.

This deduction will start at either £411 (if claiming Housing Element) or £684 (if not).

You could ask a local welfare rights organisation, or the Scope helpline for assistance in getting an accurate benefits calculation.

Remember as well it's cheaper to run a household as a couple than two singles.

That's great thank you. My ESA and ADP alone would cover our bills and basic shopping each month so that's really reassuring.

I assume our UC will work in the way his does now, he only gets a payment when his wages are too low although once he lives here he will probably take on a seasonal job over the winter months.
