Yesterday my long awaited renewed medical driving license finally showed up after a mammoth 6 month wait. With deteriorating health DVLA in Swansea very surprisingly allocated me a 10yr driving license instead of my normal 1yr license so either i am not as sick as i think i am or they got tired of my daily calls telling them to hurry up renewing my licence.

    I am waiting for mine to arrive also. My GP helped me fill in the renewal form in August 2025. They finally wrote to him wanting a response in December 2025. I am now waiting to hear from DVLA. I am using Section 88 to continue driving. It is crazy that medical reviews take so long.

    WOW i feel for you @julievictoria

    I completed the renewal forms July 2025 and DVLA did nothing for the next 4 months then they asked my GP to complete his section on 15th November which he did and returned to them 17th November. DVLA then did nothing again until a couple of days ago when they sent out my new licence. I've been renewing my medical licence yearly for many years and the wait time for me has always been around 6 months. DVLA clearly still not fit for purpose.

    I heard from someone on another forum whose daughter was a paramedic but had a medical license. She waited several months for her civilian license to be renewed, despite having certification to say she could drive on blue lights!! All the while the NHS did without an ambulance driver. 🙁

    I tried to reapply for my licence like 3/4 years ago, and didn't hear anything for about a year. But unfortunatley during that wait I fell ill again and gave up. I'm tempted to reapply for my licence again but the wait is ridiculous.

    That's so bad @66Mustang

    DVLA have been unfit for purpose for many years due to a constant backlog of applications and renewals, occasional industrial action, redundancies, and general cost cutting. Its an organisation literally on its knees.
