How long is reasonable?

Hello

I have tried to find on the Internet, how much time is reasonable?

We currently live in a bungalow, it was adapted for me 10 years ago, ramps, wet room, hand rails, higher toilet. Social Housing.

As time has passed unfortunately our health has deteriorated too, I now need a special toilet that cleans you.

I had an Ot come round and they arranged a hospital bed and requested a Japanese toilet, I had to Google it. We had to fill in an application for a grant and this went to the local authority, I had a WhatsApp message from a guy to take photos of my wet room so they can price up for my social housing provider.

6 weeks later nothing, We had the bed almost immediately which we are great full for, but no news regarding the toilet.

I rang the OT and was told its now in the hands of my social housing, rang the Adaptations for my housing and was told yes this went to the Adaptation dept in my area and unfortunately it can take 6 months to a year to go through, it's even been known for people to pass before any Adaptations are even done.

I was horrified, this is a basic natural need, it's a toilet.

How long is reasonable time before, I have to go and get help because they are notorious for not pulling their fingers out, 4 years to get a special handle on my kitchen window and they said no heres a pole for a velux window try and use this. It's currently been 9 weeks since first visit from OT.

I imagine a Japanese toilet will be quite expensive for them to provide, so the process is prolonged and probably has to get the approval of many people. Lots of other people in more urgent need will already be ahead of you in the queue as well.

In the meantime you do have a toilet to use although I appreciate it isn't currently ideal for your needs.

You can make a complaint via your Housing provider complaints process with regards to the waiting time, and go to the Housing Ombudsman afterwards if you aren't satisfied with the outcome.

Thank you kimi for your reply.

I know its at the final process for our area, if it is too expensive we will have to pay 30 % towards costs which we have agreed that was mentioned before application. I appreciate other people are worse off than ourselves, it's the waiting process if they are unable to do it, we would fund it ourselves, somehow as its a necessary thing, and it's affecting daily living and the rest of the family. So time is of the essence.

    Thanks again, take care.
