More social housing can only be a good thing, I just wish the private rental market wasn't as crazy as it is too so people had a choice

Thank you for sharing this @Chris75_

I agree with you @Biblioklept on both points, something needs to change with the private rental market!!

In my view, it should be an aim to provide a council ( call it a starter home if you like) flat for all citizens. Those that then choose to buy privately, they are very welcome to do so, as and when they can afford it.

Of course we all know this will never happen, not in a UK of such property fetishism, where renting is seen as failure in life.

It has been said half in jest, that if people stopped selling homes to each other, the economy would collapse. That doesn't seem a very well-balanced economy if you ask me. I wonder who might be partly to blame for the lack of council housing today? 🤔

Well that would be the government taking most of the money to try to balance its books and then the local councils for wasting what was left for them and it goes on and on somerset will be OK when they get there new laptops and win there court case in may

Some councils lost 50% plus of their funding from Whitehall during the Cameron Osborne era, i'm thinking of places like Liverpool, areas that don't vote tory! That money isn't coming back i bet.

I remember Sunak was filmed talking to a load of old tories in Tunbridge Wells. He actually admitted they were taking money from deprived areas, to help such as them. We all know that's how it goes, but it was still shocking to hear him utter the quiet bit out loud. Even worse from a hedge fund type.
